Consultant plastic surgeon

Specialises in children’s reconstructive and plastic surgery, with particular interests in paediatric skin and soft tissue tumours, congenital melanocytes naevus and vascular malformations and teenage breast/chest wall reconstruction.

Biography

Miss Jana Torres-Grau is a consultant plastic surgeon who specialises in children’s reconstructive and plastic surgery.

She qualified from the University of Bristol achieving BSc Hons in cellular and molecular pathology, after which she spent a year as a nursing assistant. She then went on to study medicine and surgery through the fastback route in The University of Bristol and qualified in 2009.

She started her early post graduate surgical training in the areas of Bristol and Bath and then secured higher plastic surgical specialist training in the London Deanery, achieving all of her competencies working in Royal Free Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Royal London Hospital and Wexham Park Hospital.

She became a Fellow of the RCSEng in 2020, followed by a period of fellowships in Great Ormond Street Hospital in craniofacial and general paediatric plastic surgery. Since 2021 she has been a consultant in paediatric plastic surgery in the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

Conditions

  • Birth marks (vascular and pigmented ) CMN, moles, haemangiomas, vascular malformations.
  • Soft tissue tumours – epidermoid and dermoid cysts, lipomas, epitheliomas.
  • Congential hand anomalies – extra digits and syndactyly trigger finger.
  • Congenital facial anomalies – eyelids, lips.
  • Ear concerns, protruding, deformities including earlobes (congenital and acquired).
  • Adolescent breast (fibroadenomas and gynaecomastia).
  • Trauma.
  • Scars.

Procedures/ treatments

  • Removal of moles, lesions, cysts, lipomas, warts and birthmarks.
  • Scar correction/revision.
  • Defromitites and prominent ear correction.
  • Laser (all indications).
  • Gynaecomastia removal (excision/liposuction), breast benign tumour removal (fibroadenoma).
  • Correction of congenital hand anomalies (extra digits, syndactyly, trigger finger).

Special/ research interests

Throughout her career she have been involved in Children’s charity work, starting with a set up in South Africa in collaboration with youth programmes, as well as being an ambassador for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

She works as part of a multidisciplinary team with ophthalmic surgeons, neurosurgeons, interventional radiologists, dermatologist, pathologists, scar and hand therapists, physiotherapists and psychologists.

She also teaches trainees and is involved in clinical research.
