After completing an engineering degree at Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Karen decided to retrain as a doctor. She trained in cardiothoracic surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospitals before going to the Mayo Clinic in the United States to compete a one-year advanced fellowship in thoracic surgery with emphasis on minimally invasive surgery and oesophageal surgery.
She offers the full range of thoracic surgery including minimally invasive lung resection, surgery for mesothelioma, metastasectomy, resection of mediastinal tumours and thymoma.
Karen also specialises in surgery for pneumothorax, empyema, pleural effusion and chest wall disease such as chest wall cancers, pectus surgery and trauma.
In her spare time, she runs and plays the trumpet and the piano.
