Mr Salih is a consultant cardiac surgeon and since 2017 has been the head of service for children’s cardiac and adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’.
Caner’s main interests lie in complex neonatal surgery. He is one of the few surgeons in the UK performing the Nikaidoh and double root translocation procedures for complex conotruncal anomalies.
Caner trained at the top centres for paediatric cardiac surgery in the UK. He has also completed a fellowship at the internationally recognised Royal Victoria Children’s hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
Caner returned to the UK in 2010, and after a short period as consultant at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford he started as a consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in April 2010.
Under his leadership the unit has achieved outstanding outcome in all aspects of paediatric cardiac surgery, in particular the Norwood open-heart operation for hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS).
Caner is one of the only surgeons in the world openly publishing his cumulative personal outcomes since starting as a consultant, setting a new precedent in transparency
Caner’s clinical interests include a range of surgical treatments for congenital heart disease, particularly hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), complex congenital cardiac surgery, surgical performance and outcome monitoring.
